Cleaning and Maintenance
All components may be cleaned with a standard, low-alkaline, non-abrasive detergent such
as Alconox or Liquinox.
Routinely inspect surfaces for chips and scratches
Certain oils may remove markings from glassware. Avoid getting oil on the outside of the
filter holder.
Fritted glass bases should be examined periodically to see if the frit might be clogged,
possibly causing loss of effective filtration area. Frits can be cleaned by backflushing
with water and gently scrubbing the surface with a brush or laboratory wiper. If the frit
is still clogged, soak the base without stopper overnight in a cleaner such as Nochromix,
and use vacuum filtration to rinse the frit thoroughly with distilled water.
 |
Avoid using cleaners containing chromic acid, as these are
dangerous and produce hazardous (carcinogenic) waste. |
Sterilization
Wrap assembly in Kraft paper or other steam permeable paper. Autoclave
for 20 minutes at 121º C (250º F),
fast exhaust. Holders can be used after they have cooled and can be handled without
gloves. Individual components may be UV sterilized but not the entire assembly: be sure
components are dry before UV sterilization.
